Kevin Smith

Kevin smith writes and produces films on a low budget and therefore his production and distribution costs are minimal in comparison to the larger film production company’s. The first film that Kevin Smith wrote and filmed was clerks, he was forced to take many risks in producing this film and luckily they payed off for him. Smith produced the film clerks on $30,000 and then got the film distribution company, Miramax, to distribute his film. Clerks eventually made $3,000,000 as a result of both Kevin hard work and determination and the method of distribution he choose to use. Following Clerks, Kevin went on to write 25 other films and directed 20 other films. He used the company Lions Gate to distribute some of his films. Lions Gate is one of the most successful media distribution companies in North America; film makers like Kevin Smith pay Lions Gate $20million for them to distribute their films. Film makers like Smith do this as these well known distributors aid in boating the sales levels that the film can obtain. 20140317-110339 am.jpg Kevin Smith’s most recent film, Redstate, took Kevin and his team 25 days to film. 4 months after filming Kevin took the film to the Sundance film festival where her made the speech that is shown in the video below. http://youtu.be/9uZtOF2zjmg At the film festival he announced that he was going to auction off his film to see which company would distribute his film for him. However as you can see from the video Kevin Smith choose to distribute the film himself and take it on tour to theatres across America, at these shows there would be question and answer sections with Kevin for the audience to take part in.
